The Last Harvest

by The Kentish Spires

Mark Arnold This album, quite apart from being something of a long overdue homage to the classic ‘Canterbury’ sound, also stands tall as a fresh and exciting achievement in its own right. Warm, familiar, and yet managing to stand apart from an often generic ‘Prog’ scene, ‘Last Harvest’ is quite an achievement. Favorite track: The Last Harvest.

David Freshman I heard about The Kentish Spires from a FB group about the wonderful Canterbury music scene. The cat, Davy Hoo, suggested checking your group out. I was gobsmacked at what I heard!! Brilliant is a complete understatement. Wonderful instrumentation/exquisite musical interludes/passages, great horns, vocals and so much more! So glad that I found out about and bought your incredible "The Last Harvest". Hope that you guys do more!!! I love it! Fresh

KINGDOM OF KENT Oh how the seas are bleeding with human blood Ships full of anger, washed and wrecked in the mud They're coming, they're fighting Gnarled and all hell-bent They're landing, expanding They want the Kingdom of Kent See all the men stripped naked on this land on the edge No food or water or shelter can we pledge The Romans have left us It's now our own defence Shore up our beaches Save the Kingdom of Kent You know we'll never see a time like this again Beauty of green The Garden of Eden was not as beautiful as this Our love of this Kingdom is threatened by arrows and rods We just can't stand by as they plunder and tear down our Gods Gather your children and hold them to your breast The castles have fallen, they never seem to rest Our bloodlines infected The purity has died Our leaders desert us The politicians lied You know we'll never see a time like this again Beauty of green The Garden of Eden was not as beautiful as this Our love of this Kingdom is threatened by arrows and rods We just can't stand by as they plunder and tear down our Gods Now we are running and hiding from their chains Nothing but blood-lust is rushing through their veins Our children are captured Living in torment Shields battered, skulls fractured We've lost the Kingdom of Kent You know we'll never see a time like this again Beauty of green The Garden of Eden was not as beautiful as this Our love of the Kingdom is threatened by arrows and rods We just can't stand by as they plunder and tear down our Gods

CLARITY I had a reason to seek some clarity Too many options which one will it be Move office, move country, new passions to find I need to sit and think about this, can't make up my mind I had a boyfriend, happy as can be He wished us to marry and I said we'll see A proper church wedding; the best we can find I need to sit and think about this, can't make up my mind It’s so funny this aimless life Am I really that person to make a good wife? A great opportunity headed my way A step up the ladder and a bump in my pay Expense account, healthcare and a company car I need to sit and think about this on a stool at the bar It’s so funny this aimless life Am I really that person to make a good wife? If only I had some kind of vision The problem with me, indecision I see trouble ahead but that’s nothing new So the moment is lost and nothing gets through Clarity, give me clarity Clarity, give me clarity Clarity, I need clarity Clarity I had a reason to seek some clarity Too many options which one will it be They all needed answers this messed with my head The deadline expired as I lay in my bed It’s so funny this aimless life Am I really that person to make a good wife?

SPIRIT OF THE SKIES Out of the dusk tiny shadows fall A crowd in a cloud on the wing Just follow the path as the swallows weave The sky is alive as they sing Twilight, insight, dreamer, take flight Oh how it feels with the wind at your heels We long for a land far away We will return when a thief fails to steal Ready to reclaim our homeT Twilight, insight, dreamer, take flight Hope lifts our souls as we fly Spirits of the sky We'll shed our skins like lizards in the dry We dance the dance on an astral wind Two spirits entwined like a vine Our souls are so pure, unstained without sin Outside of space and of time Twilight, insight, dreamer, take flight Hope lifts our souls as we fly Spirits of the sky We'll shed our skins like lizards in the dry Soon to return on our own beam of light Our journey is now at an end We will salute the spirits of the skies Our right to our lives we'll defend Twilight, insight, dreamer, take flight

TTWIG 03:48
TTWIG (THAT’S THE WAY IT GOES) Must fly out and take a walk Get some air into my head Been feeling sort of locked up lately Reflecting on the day I've had It's pretty quiet amongst the trees And the wind it gently blows I'd like to come here every day That's just the way it goes Ooh that's the way it goes Ooh that's the way it goes Must fly out and take a break Get some freedom to my soul Need a gig that just won't break Restoration is my goal Ithaca is calling me As the wave it gently rolls Restless spirits haunt the beach That's just the way it goes Ooh that's the way it goes Ooh that's the way it goes Ooh that's the way it goes Ooh that's the way it goes Ooh that's the way it goes Ooh that's the way it goes Ooh that's the way it goes Ooh that's the way it goes Ooh that's the way it goes Ooh that's the way it goes

Introception 07:17
INTROCEPTION I can see you. I can see right through you I can hear you. I hear about the things you do And I know you manipulate me Not so blind that I cannot see But no one extrapolates me. Introception! It's a joke when you talk like a kid 'Get with you' was the worst thing I did This time I'm gonna take off the lid; of this deception And you're draining all my energy And you take my creativity Now you're praising your insanity. Introception! I can see you. I can see right through you I can hear you. I hear about the things you do And you leave such a bittersweet taste And you need to get out of my face Do you think that you’ll ever replace my affection? Like a butterfly caught on a pin I regret that I let you in Don’t think about adding me in to your collection And you're draining all my energy And you take my creativity Now you're praising your insanity. Introception! I can see you. I can see right through you I’m a tongue twister your gonna miss I’m leaving. Do you get the gist of my intentions? Understand the look on my face Take your stuff and don’t leave a trace Now I’m free and I’ve got back my space. Introception! And you're draining all my energy And you take my creativity Now you're praising your insanity. Introception! I can see you. I can see right through you I can hear you. I hear about the things you do I can see you. I can see right through you I can hear you. I hear about the things you do You know you’ve seen the last of me . . . yeah

THE LAST HARVEST With sadness, we watch our vision fall away to sand The hour is at hand With blindness, we follow prophets who promised us the most And then gave up the ghost As the earth spins around And the distance reduces And we close with the sun Like a home-coming friend We see in time The last harvest approaches With tears in our eyes And regret in our hearts We gather, the data stream to justify the spend Then forecast the end We witness, events unfold exactly in their time Declaring our crime As we squander This last opportunity To build peace on earth And goodwill to all men Time … Had forgiven us everything But we would not refrain From the old ebb and flow As the earth spins around And the distance reduces We run to the end With our feelings on show We see in time The last harvest approaches But we would not refrain From the old ebb and flow

HENGIST RIDGE Oh that you were here with me now, sword in hand To smite them down, to save our land If you were here dear brother, you'd know what to do This fight is theirs to pick but this day they'll rue On this day listen, listen to your heart Mind, what think ye of victories wrought What's held dear in mind, body and soul? Kentish men, men of Kent to your role! Last night I awoke in a sweat, breathing hard I dreamt our toil and work had all been marred What pointless strife and stress do we endure? To gain the upper hand; our legacy ensure? Think of your wife, your lover, mother, kids This day is the day to hold fast the Ridge! They come to take, to wound, to kill and to enslave This night our Gods say in their blood we'll bathe! This morn let us fight for all we hold most dear Use our weapons; use our skill, our bravery and fear For Kent, for peace, our families and ourselves Each man must pray to God; then we'll never fail This land is ours now, once it was not so We came; we conquered with spear, axe and bow Is retribution now knocking at our door? Our past to haunt us, trading war for war No time for regrets now, forward to the fray! Gird yourselves with rage and hope, immortalise this day Defend your Hengist Ridge with honour, pride and might Or rest forever in death's eternal night
